IGY (Israeli Gay Youth) is the only nation-wide LGBTQ+ youth movement in Israel. Join us to learn from IGY's co-CEOs Rom Ohayon and Yoni Avitan about the state of queer Israelis since October 7 and what it means to work towards a brighter future for all in Israel. All are welcome and desserts to follow the program. About our speakers:
Rom Ohayon, Co-CEO at IGY, the Israeli LGBTQ+ youth organization
Rom has been an active figure in the Israeli LGBTQ+ field for the last ten years. Starting as a volunteer in 2015, Rom has led different activities inside IGY, including gap year programs, digital youth activity and global partnerships. Rom has an LL.B from the Tel Aviv University with a focus on Gender studies, and for the past years has been splitting her life between Tel Aviv and Afula, a northern Israeli city, where she is part of a pioneering attempt to create LGBTQ+ local communities in Israel’s geo-social periphery.
Yoni Avitan- Co-CEO of IGY, the Israeli LGBTQ+ youth organization
Yoni joined IGY four years ago, as Regional director, then stepped in the position of International director of Youth Programs. Before joining IGY, Yoni worked as the Central Shaliach of USY in NA. Prior to that, he was the educational director and camp director at NOAM, the Israeli Masorti youth movement. Yoni holds BA in Politics Science and Jewish Philosophy, and a master’s degree in Gender Studies.
